Gold is another common ring making material. Gold comes in different karat designations like 14, 18 and 24. Other materials that you may come across include titanium and stainless steel. These materials are fairly new in the jewelry making world but quite popular because they are inexpensive and durable.

There are times that a boyfriend gives his girlfriend a promise ring to represent their commitment. However it is also common for couples to exchange promise rings. Matching bands make a fashionable statement. You can get your gold, silver or titanium bands engraved with names, dates and brief messages. This makes a beautiful and romantic gift even more special. Often many stores will include engraving at little or no additional cost. Other popular types of matching bands include those adorned with diamonds or colorful gemstones and those with Celtic engraving.

For those people who are matured enough to enter into a serious relationship, a pair of matching promise rings will be suitable for them. This includes not only high school students but also adults who may be out of school. Anyone who is dating but not ready for an engagement can declare their committed intentions with a promise ring. Exchanging promise rings may even serve as a reasonable substitute for marriage in the eyes of couples who don't want to get legally married. These rings can be fashionable, but first and foremost are representations of love and honor.
