Cubic zirconia solitaire style rings are recommended because you can get a larger stone for the same price. Diamonique is a popular type of simulated diamond sold by the QVC shopping network.

Then again, if you are like a lot people, you will want nothing less than diamonds. You can buy diamond promise rings from your local jewelry store or online. Anyone on a budget should consider shopping for promise rings on Ebay. Many wholesalers list their brand new items for auction at a low price. Then there are people who list gently used jewelry at a dramatic discount. Either way you are likely to find a good deal. Just make sure you deal with sellers who have a history of positive feedback.
